Region E takes its services to the people

ALEXANDRA – Local government and NPOs descend on Alex.

The City of Johannesburg’s Region E took its services to Alexandra residents for the second consecutive year through half day work sessions at the San Kopano Community Centre.

The initiative by several departments, in partnership with non-profit organisations and the private sector is conducted bi-annually for residents to receive information and advice and also get their complaints and concerns dealt with at their doorstep.

The council’s Ephraim Pooe said the event cut the residents’ travel cost to the region’s Sandton offices, provided them with instantaneous and multiple one-on-one services from a one-stop platform and, in a non-formal and easy flowing process.

“It started in 2010 and includes integrated services from provincial government including housing, social development, and sports and recreation,” On hand for the council were, the Joburg Roads Agency, Pikitup, City Parks, Emergency Management Services, Library Services, Joburg Water, Joburg Property Company and City Power.” Future events will include billing and other departments,” Pooe said. The agencies also distributed flyers and booklets on their services. A health awareness session was conducted and a quiz was held to determine the resident’s absorption of the information.

Alex residents receive advice about city council services.
