Jailed accountant on fraud charge

ALEXANDRA – Prisoner and his girlfriend in court for fraud.

An accountant, incarcerated for an unspecified crime, who is on trial in the Alex Magistrates’ Court is accused of defrauding his former Midrand employer, allegedly in cahoots with his girlfriend.

Lance Adams is accused of defrauding electronics company Sony – where he was an accountant – of R237 000 in November 2003. The money was allegedly deposited into his girlfriend’s bank account, who was said to have been a financial adviser at an insurance company at the time.

Investigations revealed that a Mini Cooper was purchased in January 2014, which they sold two months later.

Adams was said to have fallen ill and missed work for an extended period until he was arrested and detained in 2015. However, he was later released when the docket wasn’t brought to court in time.

When the case was reinstated after the court received the docket, they discovered that he was already serving time for another offence. The woman was granted bail.

The pair will reappear before Magistrate Renier Boshoff on 14 September.
