Alexandra’s youngest soccer team was officially launched at the Alexandra Stadium on 7 September.
One-year-old Baberwa Football Club also unveiled its new home and away kits at the launch.
Club coach, Alex Bapela , who played for teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and Giyani’s Dynamos FC said the players’ morale was generally high during training.
“If the morale is not high, the team does not benefit anything. I make sure that they enjoy every session to the fullest in order to raise their morale and boost performance,” he said.
But of course boys will be boys but Bapela said the players try their best not to let anything distract them.
He refused to reveal to Alex News who his star players are for fear of poaching. “That I cannot reveal because once I reveal which
players you need to look out for, they might not make it to the next training session.”
Sports physician, Dr Ephraim Nematswerani said it is important for players to take better care of their bodies in order to have long-lasting careers.
“Players need to look after themselves both on and off the pitch. Looking after yourself, you are likely to succeed and last longer in this career.”
Baberwa FC players show-off some of their kits.
He said healthy eating and exercising regularly contribute to long-lasting careers.
Baberwa is one of three Alex teams who play in the ABC Motsepe League and aims to be in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the near future.
“Preparations for the playoffs have already begun so that we can get to the National First Division and once we are there, the road to the PSL will be a smooth one,” the team’s CEO, Joe Seanego said.
