Alexandra Cricket Club is ready for the big leagues

ALEXANDRA – The Alexandra Cricket Club has been promoted to the Premiere A League for the first time in its 22-year history.

The Alexandra Cricket Club invites the community to come on board as it ventures into its first ever season in the Premiere A League.

Club chairperson, Lesiba Mailula said players have been practising ahead of Joburg’s toughest club cricket league, since July, and while he was optimistic, he was also realistic about the club’s chances.

“The Premiere A League is the top level of club cricket before franchise cricket,” he said. “We were promoted to it after coming second in the President’s B League last year.

“We will lose some games but are hoping for some wins too – what matters most is that we learn against the best and improve our game.”

A bit of community support will only be good for the club, and Mailula invited the public to come watch some of the upcoming games.

Their last friendly match before the season kicks off will be away against The Wanderers Club, for a 50-over game on 24 September, followed by a braai.

Alex’s first competitive game will see them host Kagiso Cricket Club for a 50-over match on 1 October. This one promises to be very competitive and offer a great day out in the Alex sunshine.

Alexandra Cricket Club is 22 years old this year and sports strong teams ranging from U11 to open level. These teams compete in the Premiere A League, President’s B League and the SU8 League.
