Given the poor ticket sales for Bafana Bafana’s world cup qualifier match against Burkina Faso on Saturday, Alex News went around the township to ask residents if they support Bafana Bafana.
Bafana Bafana won 3-0, but the FNB stadium was almost empty.
This is what they had to say:
Jeffrey Daniel: Yes, they play well. With proper training and determination they could be like the team that took us to the 1996 African Cup of Nations and won. They need to refocus and go back to the drawing board.
Lesego Malepe: Yes, they are our national team and need our support in order to be encouraged to do better. They should be our pride.
Dipuo Malepe: Yes, it is every South African’s duty to support our national teams, despite their performance. In us supporting them, they will be motivated to do better.
Nathi Qinisile: Yes, it is a good team and with a lot of hard work and determination they can actually make us as a country proud. We should not give up on them now. We should support them.
Yes, because they played well in the last match. I wish they could play like that more often and go through to the world cup. We want to be part of the world cup.
Lesego Raekoa: No, they always disappoint us, so what is the use? One win does not change anything. They always give us hope and later disappoint us again.
Sabelo Miya: Yes, because as a South African I have to support them, whether they win or not. Let us not give up on them now when they need us the most.
Ntombikayise Tini: The less said about them the better. It is just a team and really, they do not contribute anything to Fifa. I do not know how I feel about those ones.
Rheineth Lekalakala: Yes, it is our club, so we have to support them. They give us hope at times, which shows that they have the potential to make us proud. Let us support and encourage them so that they can play better.
