Big dreams for Bluebirds’ Vuyo Xabanisa
ALEXANDRA – Bluebirds player Vuyo Xabanisa harbours big dreams about her future football career.
Bluebirds’ nimble-footed midfielder Vuyo Xabanisa is itching to make the big break to the ranks of the U17 national women’s team as a stepping stone to much bigger things in her bag of dreams.
The 15-year-old, in Grade 9 at KwaBhekilanga Secondary School, who has just returned from attending coaching clinics in Spain with LaLiga clubs Real Madrid, Valencia and Villareal, said she could not wait to break into the U17 national team and eventually Banyana Banyana.

Vuyo believes playing for Banyana will open doors for her to fulfil her dreams of playing for the giants of women’s football overseas and putting women’s football in the country on the international map.
“I want to start by making a meaningful impact in my current side of Bluebirds and then graduate to the senior team,” she said. “I want people to know that Alexandra is a hotbed of talent and scouts need not look any further.
“Our coach always encourages us to lift our game as the U17 national side is on the lookout for talented players to beef up its ranks, and if we do well we could be selected.”
The Alex-born player’s family originally comes from Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape and her mother, Nombeko has vowed to stand by her daughter in both her studies and her football career. “I want her to excel in both her endeavours and make us proud as she has done by winning her recent trip to Spain,” said Nombeko.

Vuyo earned her trip to Spain after beating more than 100 other contestants in the Gauteng Future Talent Search 2017 which was held at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto in March.
It’s an initiative in partnership between the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and Global Sports International, in association with the Spanish LaLiga and has been running since 2009.
