City Parks says it is ready for summer peak season
JOBURG – The City's greening entity says it wants to work with residents to keep parks and open spaces clean.
A 24-hour emergency team for fallen trees, weekly contractor service rosters and focused weekly detailed horticultural and conservation plans will feature at the City of Johannesburg’s parks this coming peak summer season.
The MMC for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba said City Parks and Zoo, the custodian of the zoo, parks, designated open spaces, nature reserves, street trees and cemeteries, has finalised its seasonal plan.
The MMC said along with the monthly citywide A Re Sebetseng volunteer clean-up campaign, a litter-picking programme will be rolled out during December public holidays focusing on flagship parks.
At the reopening of the Kingston Frost Park in Brixton last year, Sifumba reiterated that parks are very important for our well-being.
“Parks are an environment’s lung; they provide pockets of clean air; they act as a stormwater catchment and a habitat for birdlife and small animals.”
She said residents can also help improve services to parks by logging their queries with the Joburg Connect Call Centre on 011 375 5555.
