Bovet thief sentenced for theft of chairs

ALEXANDRA – Man gets two-year sentence for theft of school chairs.

An Alex man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Alex Magistrates’ Court for the theft of chairs at Bovet Primary School.

The accused Eric Mjadu (25) who resides next to the school on 17th Avenue, pleaded guilty before magistrate Renier Boshoff to stealing 28 of 53 chairs.

The 53 chairs were found missing from a classroom after a burglary on the weekend of 21 and 22 October. The incident was reported to the school principal Edward Makasane who was away at the time and he instructed a staff member to verify if the chairs were missing.

Mjadu was captured on CCTV taking the chairs from the classroom. He claimed to have sold the 28 chairs to someone who he couldn’t identify and denied any knowledge of the remaining 25 chairs.
