Fake company owner jailed

Man arrested after he collects R67 000 from the company's clients.

Brian Kelly, employed as a driver at a Bramley-based company delivering gas to golf clubs, was sentenced by the Alex Magistrates’ Court to seven years imprisonment for theft. Six of the years were suspended.

Kelly was arrested after he had collected R67 000 from the company’s clients. On his delivery rounds, he claimed to be the new company owner and that henceforth, all deliveries were on a cash basis.

The company owner discovered the fraud when the clients declined to pay for invoices, saying that they had already done so in cash, in accordance with the new company arrangement. This led to his arrest.
