Alexandra Taxi Association members receive certificates after three-week training course

ALEXANDRA - About 45 personnel of the Alexandra Taxi Association received certificates that will help them manage their finances in the future after a three-week course.

About 45 personnel from the Alexandra Taxi Association (Ata) received certificates that will help them to use their money better.

The South African Qualifications Authority-accredited certificates were handed out to the members after a three-week course facilitated by Usiba-ka-Mdakane Training Consultancy and was funded by financial services institute, Liberty Group.

Ata’s training officer, Eddy Sikhakhane, said there was concern that a lot of people in the taxi industry, particularly drivers, did not know how to secure their money.

“A lot of people in the taxi industry do not have the knowledge to use money properly, so we asked for assistance from Usiba-ka-Mdakane Training Consultancy to make sure that these people know how valuable money is and the importance of using it well,” Sikhakhane said.

Apart from the management of money, the certificates will also help recipients acquire loans from banks when buying vehicles for their businesses or applying for a bond. Sikhakhane said that 10 points would go towards the recipient’s credit score upon applying for a loan.

One of the recipients, Zandile Hlophe, said she was excited to have been part of the course as this would help her a lot in the future. “We were told that this certificate gives you 10 points towards your credit score and I think it would help me in the future if I want to buy a house or apply for a loan,” Hlophe said.

Patrick Usiba-ka-Mdakane, a trainer for consultancy, said the partnership with Ata went well and he was looking forward to working with them again in the future. “This is a good progress for the future of both businesses, I do not see any reason for not working with Ata again in the future,” Usiba said.

He said the course was beneficial to the attendees, as this would help improve their lives.

He further applauded Ata and the Alex Randburg Midrand Sandton Taxi Association for the recent peace accord. “This was a right business decision to help grow the community. This means that everyone can work together in harmony to avoid any more deaths on our local roads,” he concluded.

The training consultancy is an NGO that addresses community development through financial management, skills training and entrepreneurial skills development, among others. They work closely with community organisations like churches, businesses and big corporates.
