Seven years for double robbery in Midrand
MIDRAND – 24-year-old receives seven years' imprisonment for robbing same victims twice.
Augusto Maphumo (24) was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for two robberies committed on the same victims in Midrand.
In the first incident which occurred at 11.30am on 31 May, Maphumo encountered two victims walking to work in Blue Hills and stole their cellphones at gunpoint.
A motorist driving nearby saw the incident and chased him in his vehicle.
Maphumo dropped the cellphones and disappeared into the bushes. The cellphones were recovered and handed back to the victims.
On 7 June, he again met the same victims at the same location, but with a man walking behind them and they recognised him. When he stopped them and demanded their cellphones, one victim grabbed Maphumo’s private parts and the man with them grabbed and disarmed him.
They held onto him until the police arrived and arrested him.
