Be vigilant
ALEXANDRA – Bramley police tip stokvels and companies on security.
It is that time of the year when criminals harass and rob residents and stokvel members of their hard-earned money.
This was said in a statement by the Bramley Police Station Commander Colonel Owen King urging particularly stokvel members to be vigilant against criminals when they shared their dividends.
The robbers, the statement read, knew and followed the stokvel member with the money from the bank and either robbed them while going to the meeting point or when sharing the money. “This results in conflict and fighting among the members who will accuse each other of links with the robbers.”
Furthermore, it said other criminals targeted contractors who paid workers at building sites by following their target from the bank and robbing them on arrival. The members and companies were advised to ask banks to pay money directly into the recipients’ accounts or through other secure methods.
