Share love and gifts
ALEXANDRA – Call for altruism from the more wealthy.
Alex’s foremost philanthropist wished fellow residents, especially children and the elderly, hope and wellness over the festive season.
Seemingly undeterred by age and untiring after decades of charity work he says is a calling, Linda Twala said most beneficiaries of his work, the needy children and elderly, were his best friends.

He wished them well while distributing presents to the first lot of the many who will be gathering in their numbers at Phutaditjaba Community Centre for their share of the gifts. He said their state of need can be alleviated if everyone chipped in with any form of material support and shared with them brotherly, sisterly, motherly and fatherly love.
“We should care and not scorn them, as they have wisdom still to share. And the younger ones still have a future in store and potential as leaders and also carers of others who will be in a similar condition,” he said.
He urged residents not to pull each down but mobilise in order to leverage more support to improve the lives and living conditions in the township. He said Alex used to be clean and had a neighbourly spirit when he grew up, whereas now, grannies are left alone to fend for multitudes of children from their meagre resources.

“We should contribute and set aside part of our income and bonuses to support children through scholarships, uniforms, shoes, occasional food parcels and other school items.”
Also, he urged residents’ associations of neighbouring Linbro Park surrounded by empty land, and Wits University, owners of empty allotments in Frankenworld, to agree to the government’s purchase of the land as a gesture of goodwill to many Alex residents in need of housing.

He assured them that quality houses will be built which won’t affect the value of their properties. “It will be their contribution to social cohesion and to fend off impending land grabs and likely revolution over land by angry and overcrowded township children.”
