#ICYMI: Wall collapses on house, kills siblings

KEW – Two children died at their home on Saturday when a wall fell on their shack while sleeping.

Poverty has led in the death of two children in Kew.

This after desperate families built their homes inside the abandoned Banakekeleni building which used to house the Christ Embassy church on 11th Road in Kew. Some families built brick houses and others, shacks. The building contains about 20 homes.

Johannesburg North cluster communication officer, Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo, said the family of five was sleeping when a wall collapsed and fell onto the family’s home, crushing the children, a one-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl.

He could not confirm what injuries the two children sustained and said further investigations would provide more details. “We are waiting for pathology results to confirm the injuries, but in the meantime, investigations continue,” Mamabolo said.

“The parents of the deceased managed to get away unharmed with their newborn baby, but the two children, unfortunately, died on the scene.”

According to a resident, the lifeless bodies of the two children lay at the scene in a small passage in front of their house for hours, waiting for forensic pathology services officials to examine them before taking them to a government mortuary.
