Final goodbye for Mbopha

Alexandra — Slain businessman Mbopha Mashigo was buried at the Waterfall Cemetery last Saturday.

Hundreds of people flocked to the St Hubert Catholic Church on First Avenue to pay their last respects to slain businessman, Mbopha Mashigo last Saturday.

Father Thabo Mothiba, who was a close friend to Mashigo, said that Mashigo was a God-fearing man who went to church every Sunday to receive holy communion. “Mbopha was a thoughtful man who never got tired of helping people. He always had the best interest of Alex and its people at heart,” Mothiba, said.

“He was not a snob, he was the kind of businessman that would go into a shack to provide bread to the people.”

Among the mourners were Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza, MEC for community safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane and Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Mpho Motsumi.

First Avenue and Rev Sam Buti Street were closed for the duration of the funeral. The cemetery was flooded with people who attended, with most cars parked outside the gate of the entrance and on the streets.

Some mourners did not even get to go into the gates of the cemetery. “I struggled to find parking and when I finally did, the burial was over. I did not even see Mbopha’s grave,” Kelebogile Mokwa said.
