Thusong receives blankets
ALEXANDRA - Thusong Youth Centre gets a donation of blankets from two generous doctors.
Thusong Youth Centre received a donation of 50 blankets from two generous men, Dr Abdul Ahad Ismail and Dr Ismail Vachait.
The doctors have donated blankets to the community centre for a few years. Ismail said it was something they had to do in order to show their support to the community. “It is very cold around June so we donate blankets to the community centre,” said Ismail.
Beauty More, who manages the centre, said she was grateful to the ongoing support of the doctors. “It is always good seeing the children so happy,” More said.
The centre holds a theatre night every September to coincide with the Joburg Arts Alive programme and it focuses on the youth. Rehearsals start in August in preparation for the two-night event. The likes of Mduduzi Mabaso and Meshack Mavuso started their acting careers at the centre’s theatre.
Theatre nights bring upcoming and accomplished actors together to give the beginners a feel of working with professionals. Director and writer Michael Motaung said they would like theatre nights to grow. “It would be nice to run it three or four times a year for three weeks,” said Motaung.
