Robbery of computers worth R4m foiled
ALEXANDRA – Alleged truck hijacker with R4million worth of laptops arrested trying fleeing into veld.
A suspected truck hijacker was remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrates’ Court on 8 February, pending further investigations.
The man, who was with two others who evaded arrest, was nabbed by police and the security guards of RTT Courier Company as he allegedly fled from a crime scene in Olifantsfontein on 30 January.

Two of the suspects who were in an Audi and allegedly armed with restricted rifles, stopped behind the company’s truck at a robot at 6.30pm.
The truck, loaded with laptops worth R4 million was en route to the company’s distribution depot in Jet Park. As the truck pulled off, the suspects overtook it and blocked it from the front. Immediately afterwards, a BMW arrived and its driver joined the two suspects. They allegedly restrained the truck crew and one suspect took over and drove the truck while the other two followed in their vehicles, later found to have been reported stolen.

They drove to a veld where there was another truck into which they allegedly offloaded the consignment. As they were about to drive off, 10 minutes later, they fled the scene on foot when they saw police and the company’s security guards approaching. The suspect was apprehended as he fled and the company truck and all its consignment recovered.
Its crew was released to continue their journey. The suspects’ vehicles and truck were forfeited to the state pending identification of their owners.
