Setswetla shooting spree

ALEXANDRA – Setswetla murder and shooting mayhem suspects remanded in custody.

Two men accused of business robberies, murder and attempted murder had their case postponed on 26 March by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to 26 April pending further investigation and a post-mortem report.

The two who were part of an armed gang who caused mayhem at Setswetla informal settlement during the incident which occurred at 8pm on 17 February resulting in one victim dead and others in hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. They were arrested by police from Bramley Police Station on 5 March following a tip-off from residents. Their accomplices are still on the run.

The gang first raided a shop, where they shot two shop owners in the head resulting in the death of one of them and also shot a resident who was with them. The two victims were later taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment and the other was certified dead on the scene and later taken to a government mortuary. Three empty cartridges were found at the scene. A fourth victim was injured by a stray bullet while in his nearby shack and also taken to the hospital for treatment by his father.

The fifth victim was shot next to the shop followed by a sixth victim who was shot and injured in the thigh as he was going to the shop to buy cigarettes. Both were also taken for treatment at Alex Clinic. The seventh and eighth victims who operate a tavern nearby heard the commotion. When they got out of their premises to check, they were confronted by the seven men, four of whom were armed. They threatened the victims and robbed them of R8 000 in cash. One of them was kicked while lying down and hit and injured on the elbow with a crowbar.
