Tavern owner and assistant shot dead

ALEXANDRA – Tavern owner, assistant, and another man killed and wife injured.

Alex Police Station officers are investigating two incidents of murder that occurred on the 19 March.

In one incident a tavern owner and his assistant were shot dead and in the other, a man was also fatally shot.

According to Alex police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Malatji, the tavern owner’s wife was injured in the incident and taken to hospital for treatment. Malatji said police were called at about midnight to the tavern on 8th Avenue and found the 69-year-old owner and his assistant dead and the wife injured.

Their bodies were taken to a mortuary while the wife was taken to Edenvale Hospital. It’s alleged that six armed suspects who are at large walked into the tavern and opened fire before taking bottles of whisky and vanishing.

Earlier at 8.30pm, police were called to the Alex Clinic where they found the body of a man lying on a stretcher with a gunshot to his chin. Apparently, he was brought to the clinic alive and accompanied by his wife after a shooting which occurred at the intersection of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 12th Avenue. Details of the suspects were not specified.
