A man arrested for drunken driving and corruption was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment or a R400 fine

ALEXANDRA – Freeway drunken driver jailed for three months.

A man arrested for drunken driving and corruption was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to three months’ imprisonment or pay a fine of R400.

Brian Mnguni (38) was found guilty by Magistrate Renier Boshoff, assisted by state prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri, following his arrest on 15 March along the M1 North freeway.

Patrolling police stopped a swerving. When Mnguni stepped out of it, the officers noticed his unsteady movement and detected a smell of alcohol on him. He pleaded with the officers for mercy and tried to bribe them with R200 but in vain. They arrested him. He was granted bail of R2 000 which he failed to pay and was remanded in custody until the hearing and sentencing.
