Attempted police murderer admits, awaits trial

ALEXANDRA – Attempted murder trialist heads to high court for murder, other crimes afterwards.

 

A man whose court hearing was delayed for two years, partly due to his changing legal representation, finally admitted to his serious criminal charges in the Alexandra Regional Court.

Ntsikelelo Joshua Moliki was remanded in custody for sentencing on 15 June on three counts of attempted murder of police officers, for possession of a restricted firearm, for illegal possession a pistol and for illegal possession of 30 rounds of ammunition.

He was found guilty for the crime which occurred in 2016 when he tried to escape from police officers who had surrounded his hideout at a housing complex in Midrand in connection with the fatal shooting of a police officer at the Thembisa court in 2016 where he escaped while awaiting trial on charges of motor vehicle hijackings in 2012 in Tembisa, Rabie Ridge and Kagiso. These other cases have now been transferred to South Gauteng High for a hearing scheduled for 31 July to 15 August.

In Midrand, a shootout ensued as he drove through a closed boom gate in a suspected stolen motor vehicle and was apprehended after he emptied the guns’ magazines in the shootout. The guns and bullets he had failed to reload were recovered from the vehicle.

In the Tembisa case, Moliki, was appearing as Joshua Bomba Shongwane and fled from police holding cells in court after shooting dead one of three police officers who was guarding him, using a firearm he had grabbed from one of them.
