Alert guard nabs copper thieves

ALEXANDRA – Copper theft employees await sentencing.

Two construction site employees dismissed from work intend pleading guilty to theft of copper wire.

Magistrate Renier Boshoff remanded them in custody pending sentencing.

The two, Onke Ngobese (29) and Siphosethu Qanqa (24), were arrested at 6pm on 4 June at the site in Benmore. A security guard who had just been alerted by the site supervisor to a spate of theft stopped them at the gate as they walked out after work. He searched their bag and found eight pieces of the wire inside. Police called to the scene arrested them when they failed to explain possession of the wire.
