Stolen goods lead to man’s sentence
ALEXANDRA – Man with stolen goods gets three-year sentence
A man found guilty of possession of reported stolen goods was sentenced in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to three years’ imprisonment.
Peter Matsaung (23) was sentenced on 11 June by Magistrate Renier Boshoff following his arrest at night on 23 March in Bramley. Patrolling guards stopped him while he was walking suspiciously and carrying a bag. They searched the bag and found cans of spray paint and plumbing pipes which matched items reported stolen in a business burglary in the same area on 20 March.
The owner of the burgled business was called and he identified the items as his. Matsaung was arrested but denied involvement in the burglary and claimed that he was given the items by someone to sell. With no evidence of his involvement in the burglary, the court found him guilty on a charge of being in possession of stolen property.
