Guard thwarts copper theft by employee

ALEXANDRA – Thieving plumber sentenced for stealing R1 000 worth of copper.

A plumber was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to four years’ imprisonment which was wholly suspended for five years.

Strike Makhubela was found guilty by Magistrate Renier Boshoff of theft of copper at his workplace in Midrand on 13 July this year.

A security guard searched him as he was leaving work and found the copper worth about R1 000 on his person. The accused failed to account for the copper.

Police were called and arrested him after his supervisor also denied authorising him to take the copper.
