Fraudster awaits hearing
ALEXANDRA – Man turns himself in after faking bank documents.
An alleged fraudster who used falsified bank details to pay someone will reappear in the Alex Magistrates’ Court on 18 August.
The suspect who was on bail was rearrested after handing himself into the police in February this year. He had emailed proof of payment of R700 000 to the person using the fake details.
The payee approached an official at the bank who checked but the bank details didn’t feature in the system. The payee waited seven days hoping the money would be cleared. When told the bank details were false, he reported the matter to the police. The alleged fraudster handed himself in when he heard that the police were looking for him.
