Trade unionist in hot water

ALEXANDRA – Unionist back in court 8 August on sex charges.

A senior Nehawu official appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 17 July for alleged sexual assault, harassment and stalking a colleague.

He is out on bail and will reappear before Magistrate Gideon Schnietler assisted by state prosecutor Matsidiso Letsoalo on 21 August.

He faces several charges, some with lurid details which are said to have left her emotionally scarred. The crimes were allegedly committed between 2016 and 2017 at their workplace, other work venues and near her home.

He allegedly persisted with his pursuit of her including threatening her despite her refusal. Sometimes telling her that she would regret his refusal of him, touched her forcibly, including on her private parts, blocked her from leaving offices where he forced himself on her, making horrid sexual remarks about her body to the point that she didn’t want to remain with him alone in an office, peeping at her, stalking her on Instagram and following her by car to her home after work.

She is said to have been granted a protection order which he seemingly violated resulting in her laying the criminal charge. It is further alleged that he may also have abused other women who didn’t report him, fearing reprisals.
