Johannesburg Elder Peoples Forum hosts regional choral music festival
ALEXANDRA – Senior choristers participated in the Johannesburg Elder Peoples Forum regional music festival.
The Johannesburg Elder Peoples Forum, in partnership with Gauteng Department of Social Development, hosted an annual regional choral music festival.
Hundreds of elderly people from all regions of the City of Johannesburg flocked into East Bank Community Hall to participate in the regional festival. A total of fourteen choirs from all seven regions of the city participated in the festival this year.
According to Kidi Tshukudu, chairperson of the forum, the festival aimed to bring senior citizens from all over Joburg together to have fun and exercise their bodies. “We are hosting this festival today as part of our ‘active ageing programme’ where we bring together our elders from all regions of the City of Johannesburg to participate in the festival with their respective choirs.
“Our main aim is to take them out of their comfort zone, make them exercise their bodies while having fun and meeting other senior citizens.”
The provincial festival will be held on the 5th of September in the City of Ekurhuleni with each choir from City of Ekurhuleni, City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, Sedibeng and West Rand municipalities.
