Brazen murder trialist sentenced for other crimes first
ALEXANDRA – High court murder trialist sentenced for other officers' attempted murder.
A man with a pending trial at the South Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg, for the murder of a police officer and other crimes was imprisoned to nine years by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for other crimes.
Ntshikelelo Joshua Moliki (28) was sentenced on three counts for the attempted murder of police officers, two for possession of illegal firearms and one for the possession of ammunition.
The offences were committed in September 2015 at a housing complex in Midrand. The officers tracked him to the hideout after he was listed as wanted for the fatal shooting of a police officer and escaping at Tembisa Magistrates’ Court where he was awaiting a hearing for other crimes.
As the police officers swopped on the hideout, Moliki drove through a boom gate in a suspected stolen vehicle with the officers in pursuit. A shoot-out ensued with him firing back using a pistol and then swapped to a semi-automatic gun which jammed leading to his arrest.
Two guns and 30 rounds of ammunition were found on him.
His several court hearings and the judgment were delayed due to investigations and him changing legal representatives. He was sentenced to nine years on each of the three attempted murder counts; 18 years for possession of a restricted firearm with nine suspended for five years; nine years for the illegal possession of a pistol and six years for illegal possession of ammunition. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently for nine years with another nine years suspended for five years.
