Alexandra Scouts hope to continue having new experiences

The Alexandra Scouts Group enjoyed a camp out and have asked the community to help them experience more.
Alexandra has officially become the home of one of the city’s newest Scout groups. The group, which was started and lead by longtime scouts participator and retired teacher Anna Ndhlovu, has only scratched the surface of what they plan to achieve.
Ndhlovu said, “The Scouts group teaches children important life lessons that they aren’t taught at home and school.”
She shared that in the short time of her running Alexandra’s first scout group they have already introduced their Cubs and Troops to new experiences.
The Alexandra Scouts recently joined other scouts in their North East district for a camping weekend at the Sandringham scouts hall. The weekend gave children coming from different areas of Johannesburg a chance to meet, learn, work and play together. During that weekend they a had potjiekos cook-off, set up radio transmitters to communicate with Scouts in other areas, set up their own tents and, most impressively, set up their own watchtower.
Ndhlovu is concerned with parent’s reluctance to commit fully to their children’s role and needs in the Scouts. “We have a committee for the parents of this Scouts group and some of them are very interactive and supportive. The others don’t attend meetings nor want to pay their fees and this makes it hard for us to get our things together.”
She is pleading with the parents of her Scouts to be fully involved so that the children can experience what Scouts are all about to the fullest.
There are also plans for the Scouts to travel to the United Kingdom in 2020 for an international Scout’s event. Due to the financial circumstances of some of the children, this may not become a reality. Ndhlovu has therefore asked the community and public to assist her in giving her Scouts the experience of a lifetime by assisting her in raising funds for them.
