Norwood Young Stars collects its free points from abandoned match
ALEXANDRA -– The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League match is abandoned.
Norwood Young Stars will cherish the day when they collected maximum points without kicking a ball.
This follows the abandonment of the game against Extension 7 FC in the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Promotional League at the Altrek sports field on 11 November.
The match had to be abandoned following the failure by Extension 7 to meet the league’s requirements of fielding five U21 players.
Referee Ethan Charles said, “The rules clearly stipulate that all teams in this league are required to field no less than five players under 21.
“Extension 7 could not meet this requirement and I had no option but to call off the match. I will write my report to the league stating the reasons for the abandonment of the game and it is up to the league to decide whether it is a walkover and award the three points to the other team.”
Charles added that the reason offered by Extension 7 was that most of their young players were in the middle of their matric examinations hence they were not available as they were studying.
“But a rule is a rule and I am privy to bending those rules regardless of how genuine the case may be. The best I can do is call off the game and write my report stating the reasons for the cancellation and then the league will decide on the course of action.”
