Female ‘fraudsters’ to appear in court
ALEXANDRA – The two suspected fraudsters were nabbed after spending a chunk of their loot.
Two women granted bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court in connection with fraud will be back in the dock on 10 December.
The two suspects from Midrand allegedly defrauded a local company of R170 000 through a bogus Cape Town-based company. The defrauded company ordered and paid for cylinders worth the amount, with a promise of delivery within 78 hours.
The two women stopped communication when the company contacted them about the delayed delivery. The defrauded company owner even went to Cape Town only to find an empty space at the designated address.
Investigators engaged to prod the incident, traced the account to one of the women who claimed to have been asked by the accomplice to use her bank account’s details to receive the payment. Both were arrested after they had already spent a chunk of the money on shopping.
