The Department of Home Affairs in Alexandra offices call on citizens to collect their IDs

ALEXANDRA – Alexandra Home Affairs offices will open on 5 January next year for ID books' collection.

Thousands of uncollected identity documents (IDs) are piling up in the Alexandra Home Affairs district offices with applicants nowhere to be found.

According to Rendani Magoro chief administration clerk in Alexandra district offices, more than 2 000 IDs hav not been collected since 2014. He said the documents have addresses of areas such as Alexandra, Sandton, Orange Groove, Midrand and River Park.

“We call upon all those who have applied for identity documents in our offices to come and collect their IDs. We don’t want people to say they didn’t vote because they don’t have IDs next year. These IDs dates back as far as the year 2014.”

Magoro said they will open their offices from 8am to 5pm on 5 January next year for only ID collections so that those who are working during the week will be able to collect their IDs.
