Two-year sentence for possessing stolen car
ALEXANDRA – Thief sentenced for driving stolen, gear locked car.
A man who admitted to possessing a stolen motor vehicle was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
Emmanuel Nyasengo from Rabie Ridge, Midrand was arrested in November in his area while driving a motor vehicle which was reported stolen the same day in Kempton Park. When police officers stopped him in the vehicle, with an accomplice who escaped, they found the vehicle’s ignition tampered with and the gear lock still on, however, the vehicle was moving.
When asked for proof vehicle ownership, he told them it belonged to someone who asked him to look after it for him. He could not identify the person and was arrested. The vehicle has been returned to its owner.
