Run Alex runners club encourages a healthy lifestyle in the community
ALEXANDRA – 'The success of the club Is beyond what we projected when we started it a year ago.'
The coordinator of local runners club Run Alex, Sphiwe Nkosi has encouraged members of the community to join the club.
The club looked back at its first successful year recently when it celebrated its one-year anniversary at the Altrec Sports Field.
The club was established on 20 January last year by a group of local runners who ran 12km every morning on Saturday and Sunday from Altrec.

According to Nkosi, the success of the club was beyond what they projected when they started it.
“The club has reached a level that we’ve never imagined,” said Nkosi.
“It was just meant to keep us fit and active, however, we have achieved quite a lot in a period of just one year of our existence. We have participants who started running with the #RunAlex for fun but are now running marathons [42km]. Some have even qualified and registered for Comrades Marathon.

“We have hosted awareness campaigns like the one for endometriosis, a condition that affects a lot of women during their monthly cycle, to educate our members and community about it. Our oldest member is 74 years old and we have a few other members between the ages of 60 and 70.”
Nkosi has called upon all community members, young and old to join the runners club every Saturday and Sunday at 6am.
“Any member of the community is welcome to join and run with us. There are no formalities to join the club, you just bring your running shoes and join us at Altrec every Saturday and Sunday at 6am.”
