Double amputee’s parents accepts an out-of-court settlement
ALEXANDRA - An out of court settlement has been reached in Lewis Wynne's compensation case against the Gauteng Department of Education.
The parents of former Carter Primary School double amputee Lewis Wynne have accepted an out-of-court settlement from the Gauteng Department of Education.
The compensation case was set for court on 2 September but the department made the family another offer which they accepted. Lewis’ father, Kenneth Wynne said: “We believed that the amount offered was reasonable so we accepted.” He would not disclose how much the compensation figure was.
He said the amount was close to what they had originally claimed from the department. The family had initially claimed R10 million but the department offered R3 million, which they turned down.
The Wynne family thanked Alex News, Alex FM, Linda Twala and the community for their support during their ordeal, including their various sponsors and well wishers, more importantly, Europ Car. “We would like to thank all those people who have been praying for us and supporting us since Lewis was injured,” Wynne said.
The department’s spokesperson, Gershwin Chuenyane said they had reached and out of court agreement in the interest of the child. He said, “Due to the nature of the agreement we cannot reveal the details.”
