How to keep your home safe during load-shedding

JOBURG – Some easy light tips on keeping your home safe during load-shedding.

Load-shedding has unfortunately become part of our lives, as planned and unplanned outages could get you stuck in peak-hour traffic leaving you worried about your home and level of security in your area.

Eskom implemented load-shedding from 15 March with no end in sight. Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar gave a few tips on what you should do when your area is a hit by load-shedding;

  • Keep your gates locked at all times
  • Windows must be closed
  • Stay vigilant as not much can be done during load-shedding
  • Call both the security company and the Metro police ( 011 375 5911) in cases of emergencies.

If your alarm system battery lasts for a long period of time keep it on do not turn it off and remain in contact with your community groups on social media, whether it be on WhatsApp or Facebook.

Minnaar added that on the roads, Metro police officers have been deployed in 145 hotspots at multiple intersections in Johannesburg to alleviate traffic.
