Cappy caps Guinness World Record for most people eating breakfast in bed
JOBURG – There is a new holder of the Guinness World Record of the most people eating breakfast in bed.
The Cappy fruit beverage of Coca-Cola has capped the Guinness World Record of the most number of people eating breakfast in bed.
With a record 574 people, The Sheds at 1 Fox Junction in Johannesburg CBD was transformed into a massive bedroom space with fully decked-out beds ready to play host to the ‘Most People Eating Breakfast In Bed’ simultaneously at a single venue.

Cappy dethroned current title holders Sheraton Langfang Chaobai River Hotel in Langfang, Hebei, China. which was achieved on 16 August 2015 with a then-record of 418. There were only 10 disqualifications in the Cappy campaign which would have had a whopping 584 people in total.
“We are fortunate to live in a country that exemplifies diversity. Everyone does breakfast differently, so what better way to celebrate that meal occasion than bringing everyone together to break a world record,” said Cappy brand manager Caroline Roussin.

Roussin said Cappy decided to host the event to bring South Africans together and to ‘showcase our rainbow nation and at the same time show the world what South African families look like’.
“We wanted to show the world that family is not necessarily blood-related. Some people regard friends as family, some families are black and white, some female and female, male and male, some are just mother and kids or father and kids and some are mixed.

Above all, Cappy just wanted to celebrate families and the beauty of different families eating breakfast together,” Roussin concluded.
Joanna Brent, the official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, adjudicated on the day after flying in all the way of the United Kingdom and pronounced Cappy as the new title holders.
The beds and the linen used in the campaign would be donated to various old age homes in and around Gauteng, with one home in Lombardy East named as a potential beneficiary.
