‘Boss’ bolts leaving armed ‘bodyguards’ in hot soup

ALEXANDRA – Bodyguards face illegal guns rap.

Two men were remanded in custody by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation for alleged illegal gun possession.

The two were arrested late afternoon on 8 March at a housing complex in Midrand. Police on routine patrol approached a parked VW Golf 7 they were in and asked to search them. They were each allegedly found in possession of a gun with visible serial numbers and two loaded magazines.

When asked for the guns’ licences they claimed to be bodyguards of someone who had the licences. The two were arrested and led the police to their boss in Mamelodi. Seemingly the boss said to be a wanted person for criminal activities, ran away when they arrived.

The police were prompted to further search the vehicle and found two rifles also with visible serial numbers. One had 25 rounds and the other 30 rounds of ammunition and were also said to be licensed to their boss. A checkup traced the guns to some security company based in Durban and the two suspects’ names were not registered with any security vetting agency.
