ALEXANDRA – Fingerprints nailed burglar after 13 years

The long arm of the law caught up with a man who is now appearing in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on charges of housebreaking and theft.

Silas Mpofu was nabbed on 18 April in Witkoppen for the offence which occurred at night in February 2006 at a Bryanston home. Several household items including cellphones, cameras and jewellery were stolen in the incident while the homeowners were asleep. When they woke up, they found one of the doors open and on inspecting the house, they discovered the items missing.

Police investigators picked up the accused’s fingerprints from the house but they could not trace him for years until they received a tip-off from an informer.

The accused was arrested at night while sitting in a parked vehicle. His next hearing is scheduled for 5 June.
