Thief awakes in hospital
ALEXANDRA – Court remands beaten rapist in custody pending investigation.
A man who was injured in a mob justice incident is appearing at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on charges of rape and robbery.
He and two others, who are at large, allegedly raped two of the three women they found in a house they invaded April. Cell phones and other personal items were also taken from the women.
Neighbours who were alerted to the incident sought the men out. Two of them fled and the accused was apprehended, beaten and lost consciousness. His backpack contained an assortment of items, including cell phones and chargers presumed to have been stolen.
An ambulance summoned to the scene took him to a hospital for treatment under police guard before the court appearance, where he was remanded in custody pending further investigation.
