Food vendor meets robbers at cop shop
ALEXANDRA – Robbers' breakfast time attempt turns sour.
Two men arrested for alleged business robbery were remanded in custody to 3 July by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, pending further investigation.
They allegedly robbed a trader selling fat cakes from a Toyota Avanza at a site in Midrand in the morning on 23 October last year. They approached the vehicle and one of them placed an order and handed a R10 note to the victim. As he was preparing the order, the accomplice opened the door and entered the vehicle. This distracted the victim who was hit on the head with the barrel of a gun by the other robber as he tried to attend to both of them.
They forced the victim out of the vehicle and drove it away. Luckily guards in a security vehicle passing by were flagged down, told of the incident and gave chase. The robbers’ escape ended when the stolen vehicle hit a wall and they were arrested. The victim went to report the incident at the Midrand Police Station where he identified the accused he found being detained.
