Man’s thieving history catches up with him again

ALEXANDRA – Man's thieving habit gets him in jail again.

A man was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to 10 years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft at a Sandton home.

The accused, Mxolisi van Wyk (31), was nabbed along with an accomplice by the police as they were driving away from the scene at night on 3 April. The stolen items including a television set were recovered from a vehicle driven by the accomplice who was later exonerated and released by the court after it was proved that he had been hired to provide transport.

The accused was found to have served prison terms for housebreaking and theft in 2001, 2010 and 2017. His previous convictions were considered as aggravating circumstances during sentencing.
