Uniting Reformed Church continues to advocate diversity in Alex community

ALEXANDRA – 'Our late Reverend Ntate Sam Buti was a very committed servant of the people who dreamed of a South Africa that is united and embraces all languages.'

In its quest to advocate unity and diversity within the community, the Uniting Reform Church of Southern Africa in Alexandra hosted a roping ceremony to change one of its group’s name from a Sotho name Mokgatlo waBodumedi BaboChreste (MBB) ( the Group of believers in Christ) to an English name, Christian Faith Ministry (CFM).

Speaking to Alex News during the roping ceremony held at the church in Selbourne Street, corner 4th Avenue, on 30 June, treasurer general Nevia Komane said the name changing of the group was because of the church’s commitment to advocate unity, change and diversity in the community.

“Our late Reverend Ntate Sam Buti was a very committed servant of the people who dreamed of a South Africa that is united and embraces all languages. In an effort to continue where he left off, the church leadership decided to host this roping ceremony to change MBB’s group name to CFM,” said Komane.

The group will also be tasked with outreach programmes to the local community and visiting the sick in hospitals, to offer support to the vulnerable and to help in orphanage homes in and around Alexandra.
