City Power experiences major outage in Alexandra
ALEXANDRA – Parts of Alexandra are without power this morning as a result of eruption of fire at Vasco Da Gama switching station..
City Power has announced that some parts of Alexandra are without power as a result of a fire at Vasco Da Gama switching station.
The area affected by the unplanned power interruption is from 2nd avenue to 18th Avenue. City Power said their technicians were currently on site attending to the restoration of the power outage.
It added that it is anticipated that if repairs and reinstatement of equipment went according to plan, gradual restoration of power would happen during the course of tomorrow.
“It has to be stated that the switching station is more than 50 years old and its equipment has long passed its lifespan. Hence this switching station is due for upgrades and refurbishment this financial year 2019/20. R16 million has been set aside to implement the refurbishment and upgrades,” said City Power in a statement.
