Your shoe donation could go a long way
HOUGHTON ESTATE – Your shoe donation could help change the lives of many destitute people during this winter.
The shoe drive campaign incepted by Jennifer Lobel in partnership with Linda Twala, Virgin Active Old Eds manager David Liebenberg, SA Wheelibins and Minuteman Press Parkhurst, is expected to help residents in Alexandra Township.
Lobel is calling members on of the public to help them reach their dream of helping as many people as they could in Alexandra Township.
Donors can drop their pair of shoes at Old Eds Virgin Active in Houghton and at Eastgate Virgin Active.
Lobel has been working on various projects with Twala who is known as the father of the community and the leader who devoted himself to the betterment of the society in which he lives. “My work and association with Twala in Alexandra over many years inspired me to get up and do something.

“Over the last eight years I have worked on many projects with Twala through the various non-governmental organisations that I have helped.”
She said the campaign is an excellent example of social cohesion and hopes to motivate some of the shoe manufacturers to contribute to the project. “Alexandra is right on our doorstep and, yet, a whole world away.
“We need to unite communities and bring them closer together.”
Lobel pleaded that the Alexandra community urgently needs the public’s support to get as many shoes as possible this winter.
“The bins are prominently displayed in the foyer of the gyms where the public can ask for further information if needed.”
