Political parties call upon eligible voters in Ward 109 to use their constitutional rights on the 24th
MARLBOROUGH – Ward 109 will elect a new ward councillor after DA's former councillor Werner Smit exited from the council.
The three political parties contesting by-elections in Ward 109 have promised to bring tangible changes in Ward 109 if voters entrust them with their votes
On 24 July this year, Ward 109 in the City of Johannesburg will hold by-elections to elect the new councillor.
The by-elections in the ward come after former Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Werner Smit resigned as a councillor earlier this year.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) official voters role, just under 20 000 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes on the day of election.
Sabatin Shongwe of the DA, Liaquad Ebrahim of the ANC) and Patricia Mabidilala of the EFF said they were confident that their parties will get majority votes and take over this highly contested ward.

The candidates further said they understand the issues faced by the community and were ready to tackle them before the 2021 local elections. They pointed to issues of housing, sanitation, proper electricity connection and access roads to areas like Stjwetla informal settlements.
