Police arrest self-proclaimed pastor for allegedly raping a member of his church

ALEXANDRA – According to the station's spokesperson, community members came to the woman's aid after they heard her scream.

Police have arrested a self-proclaimed pastor for allegedly raping a woman who is believed to be a member of his church.

It is alleged that the pastor visited the victim in her house to pray on 16 July. Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Stephen Malatjie said community members heard the woman screaming for help. “On 16 July 2019 at around 1pm, the perpetrator approached his chosen target and told her that he came to pray for her and [told her that] they must pray in the bedroom. The women asked that they pray in the house passage but the perpetrator insisted that they pray in the bedroom.

“While praying, the pastor forced himself on the lady and raped the woman. Hearing the woman screaming, neighbours came running and apprehended and handed him to the police.”

The suspect was arrested and briefly appeared before Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. He was remanded in custody for further investigations.
