Police have urged members of the taxi industry and the public to work with the police

ALEXANDRA – Captain Malatjie said the deceased lived in Kwa-Madala Hostel and the victims belong to two different taxi associations.

The police are investigating a case after a 32-year-old taxi owner was shot and killed while another person escaped without injuries in Alexandra on 25 July this year.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatjie said the two, believed to be cousins, were sitting in the car when an unknown man appeared and started shooting at them.

“At around 5pm on 25 July 2019, two cousins, both taxi owners, were sitting in an SUV (sport utility vehicle) on the corner of Roosevelt Street and Second Avenue discussing their matters when an unknown man attacked them with what looked like an assault rifle from the front. One of them sustained 19 gunshots wounds while the other escaped unharmed.”

Malatjie urged members of the public with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator who is still at large, to contact the police.
