Police stops foreign people’s shops looting operation in Alexandra
ALEXANDRA – Malatjie added that they were no injuries or deaths reported after the incident and urged community members to distance themselves from violent activities.
The police appealed to law abiding citizens to refrain from attacking foreign nationals.
This was after the police and Metro police responded to the alleged looting of foreign nationals’ shops in Far East Bank on 17 August.
According to the Alexandra Police Station spokesperson, Stephen Malatjie it is alleged that the motive for the attack was locals’ retaliation for the recent attacks, apparently by foreign internationals, on police in the Johannesburg CBD.
“On 17 August 2019, the police received complaints from foreign internationals who own tuck shops in the area saying they were being attacked and their shops looted by the locals,” he said.
“Our Crime Prevention Unit and Metro police immediately [responded] and order was restored.”
Malatjie added that there were no injuries or deaths reported and urged community members to distance themselves from violent activities.
