Police blitz aids school girls

ALEXANDRA – Okae Molao gets top cops on the beat

 


The top brass in provincial police service and Department of Community Safety participated in a recent blitz that netted 573 wanted suspects.

The operation Okae Molao (where is the law) on 29 August, which included Alexandra, was led by Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela with officials from Premier David Makhura and MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko’s offices nabbed suspects wanted for cases including murder, rape, assault, robbery and malicious damage to property.

In a statement, provincial spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubekla said, ” In addition, two suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, another two were arrested for possession of drugs.

“Three liquor outlets were raided and closed down and 46 illegal foreign nationals were arrested in the multidisciplinary operation which started at 2am.”

He said at two roadblocks led by female officers in Alexandra, four motor vehicles were impounded and suspected stolen properties found in them confiscated. The operation also included schools where disadvantaged girls were handed 400 sanitary towels, 270 roll-on deodorant, and 250 squeeze bottles.

The operation is conducted every week and targets areas identified by the service’s intelligence unit.

Makhubela commended the operation saying it rid the streets of criminals and urged communities to continue reporting crime through Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

The arrested suspects will appear in Alexandra and Kempton Park magistrates’ courts.
